I had this vision while talking with a friend recently and I figured that I would need the reminder myself soon enough so I may as well share it here.
A gardener plants seeds with hope, tending them day and night. They water, weed, and wait, expecting the seeds to sprout and bear fruit quickly. But as weeks pass with no fruit, the gardener grows anxious. Frustrated by the slow progress, they dig up the seeds, convinced something must be wrong, and replant them—only for the impatience to return.
What the gardener forgets is that growth takes time—sometimes many seasons. The seeds were sprouting beneath the soil all along, but the fruit they long for cannot be rushed. Some seasons are harsher than others. Storms come, droughts strike, and the gardener realizes that life doesn’t always go according to plan. But even in an unfair world, fruit grows when we persist with patience, care, and time.
Yet, the gardener cannot keep going without rest. No amount of sleepless nights or constant attention will make the fruit grow faster, nor will it stop the storms. The rain and sun come in their own time, beyond the gardener’s control. Even God rested on the seventh day—not from exhaustion, but to show that rest is sacred and necessary.
In life, we face the same struggles. Life isn’t always fair or easy, and some of us don’t have families we can rely on. That’s why we need community. While no one can make our problems disappear or force our efforts to bear fruit faster, sharing our burdens with others brings rest and relief. Community isn’t just about practical help—it’s about enjoying the journey together. When we let others in, we find companionship, joy, and even celebration amidst the struggles. Community helps us rest, replenish, and share the weight of life’s difficulties.
So, in the hard seasons, take time to rest and lean on those who care for you. Nurture your friendships, find joy in smallest moments, and trust that your efforts are not in vain. The fruit will come in time. Life isn’t about rushing to the harvest—it’s about embracing the journey with those who walk alongside you.
