Q: Personal style? Does your personal style of dress have to reflect your branding 24/7? Do you have down time from your branding?
A: I tend to look at it like this: if your brand feels like “work” or something you need “down time” from, then its probably not the right brand. Its something constructed and not the truest expression of who you are that it is meant to be.
Your brand can and should permeate your life from your “home clothes” to your heels, to your hair. Yes, sometimes it takes some time, thought, and even soul searching to sift through all of the “I should be’s” to find who you truly are (and the courage to show the world).
For me, one of my biggest turning points was accepting that I honestly don’t like to wear color. I love blacks and neutrals and gold. Those are what I always, always, always want to wear. And, when I wear something else I usually end up wishing I was wearing my signature black. BUT I had to allow myself to be that “boring” (and then stop giving it a negative label). This is who I am and where I am comfortable. You should feel just as empowered by your brand!
